Welcome to the Sport Buggies frequently asked questions page.

We have tried to answer most of your questions here so please read this page before contacting us. 

Defining the term  Quadricycle? 

If you first think of Tricycle with three wheels and a Quadricycle with now four wheels .It is as simple as that. They are called Sand Rails in the USA , Dune Buggies, Off road Buggies or the technical term a Quadricycle.

In 2004 the Vehicle Associations created a new vehicle category called the Quadricycle or EEC directive 2002/24/EC. To qualify as a quadricycle the product must have a maximum unladen mass of 400kg and a maximum power output of 15kw.

Defining the term Off Road Buggy? 

 

A Off Road Buggy is now classified by the Vehicle Associations as a quadricycle.

What is a road legal buggy? 

Road legal buggies go through a several tests in order to gain EEC approval . Once achieved the manufacturer will be issued with a COC (certificate of conformity) for road legal use. 

What license do I need to drive my road legal buggy on the road? 

You need a full UK car license, or a full motorcycle license if passed before February 2001.

Can I ride my Buggy or Quad Bike on the road straight away?

What safety gear do I need? 

There is no legal requirement to wear any safety gear.

However

Sport Buggies strongly recommends the use of at least a helmet and eye protection for both driver and passenger when using any buggy or Quad Bikes on any of the UK roads.

For off road use we also recommended  safety clothing ,gloves, boots, helmet and eye protection be worn at all times.

What about congestion charges? 

You will still need to pay all congestion charges. 

How much fuel does a buggy use ? 

This will depend on what buggy you purchase and how you drive it, but on average you can expect around 50-70 miles per gallon (mpg)

What about spare parts? 

Sportbuggies.com carries a variety of shelf parts, but due to the Buggy and Quad Range on offer it is impossible to carry every available spare part for all models.

However should you require a replacement part and the part is not in stock we will immediately import the required part from the manufacturer. 
On receiving the spare part the item will be dispatched either the same day or the following day for next day delivery.

Insure my buggy for road legal use? 

There are many specialist insurance brokers that will cover a Quadricycle or Quad Bike for road use, please visit our insurance page for a list of companies that specialise in Quad and Buggy Insurance.

Test drives on road legal and off road buggies? 

Yes by appointment only .

For off road we have a Private Off Road Track were you can try before you buy, we hold a 250cc version 650cc and 800cc to offer the customer an idea on the difference in performance and torque availability .
